Short note on Tabla

Bayan (the larger drum): The Bayan is a larger drum made of metal, often from a combination of materials like iron, copper, and sometimes brass. It has a wide, open mouth at the top and a tapered, conical shape. The top of the Bayan is covered with a stretched animal skin membrane, much thicker than that of the Dayan. The Bayan does not have the tuning straps like the Dayan; instead, the player can vary the pitch by applying pressure with the heel of their hand to the center of the pudi. Both drums are played together to create intricate rhythms and melodies in traditional Indian classical music. The Dayan is played with the dominant hand and is responsible for the melodic and intricate parts, while the Bayan is played with the non-dominant hand and provides the bass and rhythmic elements. Together, they produce the complex and captivating sounds of the tabla.
